DECEMBER 14, 2017

On December 10, 2017 at 3:54 p.m. the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office received a call of an ATV that had gone through the ice on Little Sand Lake and that there were two individuals in the water. 

Deputies arrived at the public access, along with first responders, and began rescue operations.  A deputy put on a cold water suit and along with a private citizen they were able to get the two individuals out of the water.

The two victims were identified as 41 year old Holly Funk and 46 year old Jason Funk, both of Park Rapids.  Holly Funk was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids and Jason Funk was airlifted to a Fargo hospital where he was treated for hypothermia related conditions.  The ice was approximately two inches thick and the water depth was about 30 feet deep where the ATV went through.

This incident remains under investigation by the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office.
