Opioid Settlement Fund
Background:
The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office joined the historic $26 billion multi-state settlement agreements with pharmaceutical distributors and opioid manufacturers in 2021. This settlement will bring more than $300 million to Minnesota counties and cities. Cass County's expected portion of the settlement is $3.3 million over 18 years. The Minnesota Opioid State-Subdivision and Memorandum of Agreement identifies Opioid Remediation Uses Including:
Treatment
Treat Opioid Use Disorder
Support People in Treatment and Recovery
Connect People who need help connecting to the services they need (connections to care i.e. transportation)
Address the needs of the perinatal population, caregivers, and families including babies with neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome
Prevention
Prevent over-prescribing and ensure appropriate prescribing and dispensing of opioids
Prevent misuse of opioids
Prevent overdose deaths or other opioid harms
