This page addresses specifically what materials can be recycled in Hubbard County.  What can be recycled changes over time and depends on your location.  We encourage all residents and visitors to check this page every few months in case something has changed. 

What can be recycled?

  • Aluminum cans

  • Steel & tin cans

  • Glass

  • Magazines, newspapers, & phonebooks

  • Junk mail & office paper

  • Cardboard

  • #1 & #2 #5 Plastic

The following items cannot be recycled through the county: aluminum foil, foam trays, packaging, #3, #4, #6, #7plastics, and plastic bags.  

Business and Commercial Recycling:

There is substantial cost savings associated with a business recycling program.  The cost savings came from a reduced annual waste assessment fee.  Additionally, if you are getting your trash hauled you can save money by having your trash hauled less frequently or by reducing the size of your dumpster. 

How can I get started recycling? 

Contact the Hubbard County Solid Waste Department by calling 218-732-1468 or emailing solidwaste@co.hubbard.mn.us. Hubbard County will help by providing bins and education. Once your recycling system is set up you will be able to see substantial savings. 

Big Event Coming Up?

If you would like your event to include organics or recycling collection, please fill out our event recycling and organics form.  

Hauling

In addition to providing bins and education Hubbard County will pick up your recycling and haul it away for no charge.

Where can I take my recycling?

You can take your recycling to any of the recycling sheds* or either of the transfer stations.  Any recycling generated outside of the county will not be accepted.  

Plastic Bag Recycling

You can recycle your plastic bags to either Coborn's or Wal-Mart in Park Rapids inside the store.

The Park Rapids Lions Club has also partnered with Trex to recycle plastic bags within our community.  Drop off sites include:

  • St. Peter's Catholic Church

  • Calvary Lutheran Church

  • Riverside Methodist Church

  • Coldwell Banker Realty

  • Osage Community Center
