Can I report a crime to the Hubbard County Attorney's Office?
The crime should be reported to the police department in the city or town where it was committed. If the crime was committed in a township or unorganized area, it should be reported to the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Department at (218)732-3331. In the event you do not know where the crime was committed, report it to the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Department.
Does the Hubbard County Attorney's Office give legal advice to private residents?
Unfortunately, no. Attorney’s are bound by the rule of ethics to only provide legal advice to clients. The Hubbard County government is the primary client of the Hubbard County Attorney’s Office. Individual citizens of Hubbard County are not clients of the Hubbard County Attorney’s Office and must obtain other counsel/attorneys to receive legal advice.
I am a victim of a crime. Can I drop criminal charges against my aggressor?
The decision to charge or drop charges in a criminal case is made by the prosecutor. The victim has a right to let the prosecutor know their feelings and position regarding the charge(s). However, the victim’s wishes alone do not decide if a case will be filed or dismissed.
I am a victim of a crime. How can I be compensated for my loss?
Restitution (payment of financial losses) can be ordered at sentencing in a criminal proceeding as a condition of the sentence. Victims must fill out a written request for restitution. Our victim services coordinator sends victims information regarding their rights and the restitution form. Victims should return the completed restitution form to the victim’s services coordinator.
